Which ratio to pick
- 1:1 for profile pictures, product photos and album art
- 3:4 or 4:5 for Instagram feed posts (1080 × 1440 or 1080 × 1350)
- 3:4 for portrait phone photos and Instagram's profile grid
- 2:3 for portrait prints and Pinterest pins
- 9:16 for Stories, Reels, TikTok and Shorts
- 4:3 for phone photos, iPads and older slides
- 3:2 for DSLR photos and 4 × 6 in prints
- 16:9 for video, thumbnails, TVs and slides
- 21:9 for ultrawide wallpapers and cinematic headers
The 4:3, 16:9 and 1:1 pages add common resolutions and a ratio calculator. If you're making something for a particular platform, the size pages have its exact pixels and safe zones.
Cropping vs resizing
Cropping cuts the image to a new shape and keeps everything in it in proportion. Resizing to a different shape without cropping stretches it. When you can't lose the edges, use Fit whole image: the full picture sits inside the frame and the space around it is filled with blur, a solid color or transparency.
