Every one of these can be up to 10 MB, far more than they need. All are presets on this page.
Discord banner dimensions: profile vs server
Discord uses the word banner for three different images. The profile banner is the strip at the top of your profile card; without Nitro, Discord fills it with a color you choose. The server banner is shown above the channel list, with the server name written over its top edge (about 48 px, measured). The invite background is the splash behind your server's invite link.
The server sidebar is only a few hundred pixels wide, so a 960 × 540 banner is shown much smaller than the file. Use a bold image or large lettering, and keep the top strip quiet so the name stays readable.
Where the avatar lands on a profile banner
Your avatar circle sits over the lower left. Measured from the desktop app, it's roughly 162 px across, starting about 28 px from the left edge and 134 px from the top, so it covers the left third of the lower half and hangs below the banner. Discord doesn't publish this and the profile card has changed a few times, so the tool marks the overlay as approximate.
- Put text, a name or a logo on the right half.
- Keep the left third of the lower half plain. A gradient or texture is fine there.
- Go easy on fine detail. The profile card shows the banner small, so one strong image beats a collage.
How to resize an image for a Discord banner
- Drop an image above, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V, or load the sample.
- Pick profile banner, server banner, avatar or invite background.
- Drag and zoom until nothing important sits under the avatar outline. For the avatar and server icon, turn on the circle preview.
- Download PNG for pixel art and flat graphics or JPG for photos. Nothing is uploaded.
Why part of your Discord banner is hidden
Your avatar overlaps the lower left of the profile banner, and the server name covers the top edge of a server banner. Anything that isn't 5:2 or 16:9 is also cropped to the middle. Export at the exact size and keep text away from those two areas.
Why your Discord banner looks blurry
Discord shows banners small, so blur usually comes from the source rather than the display: a banner made from a screenshot, a tiny image enlarged to 600 px, or fine text in a low-quality JPG. Start from a larger original and export PNG when the banner is mostly lettering.
Animated banners
Discord takes PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF, with animated GIF banners reserved for Nitro. This tool exports still images, so for an animated banner use an editor that keeps the GIF frames.
One design for Discord and Twitch
The Discord profile banner and the Twitch profile banner (1200 × 480) are both 5:2. Make the Twitch version first, then load it here and export at 600 × 240. The overlays differ (Discord covers the bottom left, Twitch puts your channel name in the middle), so check both previews.
