The four channel images
- Profile banner, 1200 × 480. The wide image at the top of your channel page, behind your name. Up to 10 MB.
- Offline screen, 1920 × 1080. Fills the video player while you aren't live. It's the player's own 16:9 shape, so it's shown whole.
- Panels, 320 px wide. The boxes under the player for your schedule, rules and links. The width is fixed at 320 px and the height can vary; 320 × 160 is a common choice. Each panel image must stay under 2.9 MB.
- Profile picture, 256 × 256. Shown as a circle, up to 10 MB.
Designing the profile banner
Your channel name is drawn over the banner, so the middle is the worst place for detail. Put artwork, characters or a logo off to the sides (not right at the edges), and keep a soft or dark area behind the name so it stays readable. Twitch doesn't publish an exact overlay and the layout differs between desktop and mobile, so check both after uploading.
5:2 is also the shape of the Discord profile banner (600 × 240). Design once at 1200 × 480, then load the same file on the Discord banner page and export it at half size. Discord's avatar covers a different spot, the bottom left, so check that overlay too.
Offline screen tips
This is what people see when they land on your channel between streams, so give it something useful: your schedule, a line like "back Friday 7 pm ET" and your social handle. Keep text away from the bottom edge, where the player controls appear. A 1920 × 1080 JPG at high quality stays far below 10 MB.
Panels that line up
Make every panel the same height so the column looks tidy. Panels are only 320 px wide, so use lettering at least 20 px tall and one heading per panel. Export them as PNG if they're mostly flat color and text.
Formats
Twitch accepts JPG, PNG and GIF. The tool exports JPG, PNG or WebP; stick to JPG or PNG here, since WebP isn't on Twitch's list. Every export shows its exact size and stays under the limit for that image (10 MB, or 2.9 MB for panels).
Common mistakes
- Using a 1920 × 1080 image as the banner. It gets cropped to a 5:2 strip, which keeps 1920 × 768, about 71% of its height. Choose which part survives here instead of leaving it to chance.
- Text dead center. It ends up behind your name.
- Oversized panels. A 640 px wide panel is shrunk to 320 px, and its text shrinks by half with it.
Making the images
- Drop an image, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V, or load the sample.
- Pick a preset, or click a row in the size table.
- Drag and zoom to frame it. Use Fit whole image with a blur or color fill if the art shouldn't be cut.
- Export as JPG or PNG and download.
