Where TikTok covers the frame
TikTok plays full screen and puts its interface on top of your video. These zones are measured from the app on a 1080 × 1920 frame. TikTok doesn't publish them, and they move a little between phones and app versions:
- Top, about 130 px: the Following and For You tabs and search.
- Right side, about 140 px wide, from roughly 800 px down to 1560 px: your avatar and the like, comment and share buttons.
- Bottom, about 360 px: username, caption and the sound label. A long caption grows upward when it's expanded.
That leaves a clear area in the middle of the frame, from about 130 px below the top to 360 px above the bottom, and left of the button column. Put on-screen text, products and faces there. Pick the video preset and the tool draws these zones over your image.
What the tool is for here
The cropper works on still images, not video files. For TikTok that means:
- Photo-mode slides. Crop each picture to 1080 × 1920 so none of them gets bars.
- Cover images and title cards. Frame a still so the title stays clear of the caption area.
- Overlays and graphics that you'll drop into a video editor at full-frame size.
For the video itself, set your editor's project to 1080 × 1920 at 30 fps (60 fps works too) and export MP4 or MOV.
Horizontal video on TikTok
A 1920 × 1080 video plays letterboxed in the For You feed. On a phone it's only about 608 px tall out of 1920, roughly a third of the screen, with empty bands above and below. If you have to post widescreen material, turn stills into vertical frames with Fit whole image and a blurred fill. The picture stays whole and the bands show a soft copy of it instead of black.
Common mistakes
- Text along the very bottom. The caption and sound label sit on top of it.
- Details on the right edge. The like, comment and share buttons cover them.
- Square or 4:3 photos in photo mode. They don't fill the screen. Crop them to 1080 × 1920, or fit them onto a blurred fill.
Profile photo
Upload 720 × 720 px. It's shown as a small circle, so crop tight on a face or a simple logo; the circle preview shows what survives.
Making a slide or cover
- Drop an image, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V, or try the sample.
- Choose the video / photo slide preset and turn on the safe zones.
- Drag and zoom until faces and text sit in the clear middle area. Rotate or flip if needed.
- Export as JPG (PNG for text-heavy cards), check the size, and download or copy.
The same frame elsewhere
Instagram Stories and Reels and YouTube Shorts use the same 1080 × 1920 frame with different overlays; Instagram covers about 250 px at the top and 340 px at the bottom. If you post one clip everywhere, keep text inside the area that's clear on all of them. The Instagram post size page has the Story preset, and the 16:9 cropper switches to 9:16 for any other vertical crop. Measurements verified in October 2026.
