LinkedIn banner size in pixels
| Image | Pixels | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Personal profile background | 1584 × 396 | 4:1 |
| Company page cover | 1128 × 191 | about 5.9:1 |
| Profile photo | 400 × 400 | 1:1, shown as a circle |
| Feed image | 1200 × 627 | 1.91:1, shown uncropped |
All of them can be up to 8 MB. Upload at exactly 1584 × 396 so LinkedIn has nothing to resize.
LinkedIn background photo dimensions (4:1)
4:1 is an extreme shape. A 1920 × 1080 photo cropped to fit keeps a 1920 × 480 strip, only 44% of its height, so photos with the subject in the middle band of the frame work best. Skylines, landscapes and desks shot from above crop well; portraits don't. If the picture can't lose that much, use Fit whole image and fill the sides with blur or your brand color.
On desktop, LinkedIn places your circular profile photo over the lower left. Measured from the site, the circle is about 300 px across in banner pixels, starting roughly 48 px from the left and 196 px from the top, and it hangs off the bottom. LinkedIn doesn't publish these numbers and adjusts the layout from time to time, which is why the tool marks this overlay as approximate. A layout that works:
- Text, a tagline or a logo on the right half, vertically centered.
- The left third kept simple: a texture, a gradient or an out-of-focus background.
- One short message. On a laptop the banner is shown well below its file width, and long sentences get small.
Personal banner vs company cover
They're different shapes, and using one for the other gets it cropped. The company cover (1128 × 191) is much thinner than the personal banner (1584 × 396). If you need both, design the company cover first: its strip fits inside the personal banner with room to spare above and below.
How to resize an image for a LinkedIn banner
- Drop a photo above, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V, or load the sample.
- The profile background preset opens with the profile photo overlay. Click Use on the company cover row if that's the one you need.
- Drag and zoom so nothing important sits under the circle.
- Download as JPG for photos or PNG for text and logos. The export stays under 8 MB and never leaves your browser.
Why your LinkedIn banner is cut off
- It's the wrong shape. Most headers from other sites are not 4:1 (a Facebook cover is about 2.7:1), so LinkedIn crops the top and bottom.
- Your name or title is under the photo. The circle sits right on top of it on desktop.
- Phones show the banner much smaller, with the photo in a similar spot. Check your profile on a phone after uploading.
Why your LinkedIn banner looks blurry
LinkedIn enlarges anything smaller than 1584 × 396 and recompresses every upload. Start from an image at least 1584 px wide, export at high quality, and use PNG when the banner is mostly lettering. Busy detail behind text also reads as blur at the size LinkedIn shows it, so frame a quieter part of the picture behind your words.
