Facebook Cover Photo Size 2026: 851 × 315 px

The Facebook cover photo size is 851 × 315 px (or 1702 × 630 px for sharper screens), but phones show only the middle 560 × 315 px. Keep faces, logos and text in that center and let the sides be background.

Facebook cover dimensions on desktop vs mobile

Facebook displays the same cover in two shapes. On computers it shows at 820 × 312 px, close enough to the 851 × 315 upload that only a sliver of the edges goes. On phones it shows as a 16:9 slice, which keeps the full height and cuts the sides: in an 851 × 315 file that leaves the middle 560 px, with about 146 px gone from each side.

So you're designing for two frames at once: the full width for desktop, and the 560 px center for people on the app. The tool draws the phone area as a dashed outline on both cover presets.

851 × 315 vs 1702 × 630

Facebook recompresses covers, and an 851 × 315 image can look soft on high-density screens. The 2× preset has the same shape with twice the pixels in each direction, and its phone-safe center is 1120 px wide (291 px off each side). Use it whenever your photo is at least 1702 px wide; otherwise the tool warns that it's enlarging it.

How to resize a photo for a Facebook cover

  1. Drop a photo above, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V, or load the sample.
  2. Choose 851 × 315, or 1702 × 630 if your photo is large enough. You can also click Use on a row of the size table.
  3. Drag until the subject sits inside the phone outline. Pinch or scroll to zoom, and nudge with the arrow keys.
  4. Pick JPG or PNG, check the file size, and download. The photo stays in your browser.

A vertical or 4:3 phone photo keeps very little of the picture in a 2.7:1 strip. Choose the slice here, or use Fit whole image with a blurred fill to keep it all.

Why your Facebook cover is cropped on mobile

Phones turn the cover into a 16:9 slice and drop about 146 px from each side of an 851 px file. Text that spans the full width reads on desktop and gets chopped on phones. Keep it inside the middle 560 px.

Why your Facebook cover looks blurry

  • It was uploaded at 851 × 315 and shown on a sharp screen. Upload 1702 × 630.
  • Text and logos saved as JPG. JPG softens sharp edges. Covers with lettering or flat color survive Facebook's compression better as PNG; photos are best as high-quality JPG in sRGB.
  • It was enlarged from a small photo. The tool warns you when an export would be upscaled.
